I’m back in San Francisco! Definitely a bit surreal after being away for 2 years that were full of experiences and small turning points. We found out mid-May that Drew’s job would be bringing us back to the Bay Area. It was bittersweet, I could have done another year living in NYC to feel like we really experienced it fully. However, we knew we weren’t there for the long term and missed San Francisco. After being in SF for 8 years and through COVID, I needed a break from the city, so the two years away were very refreshing. We ended up moving back to San Francisco at the end of June.
Being away also allowed me to miss and remember so many of the things I love about this city. The architecture and natural beauty, I’m constantly in awe of the beautiful homes here and the Golden Gate, Pacific Ocean views never get old. The accessibility to Tahoe, Sausalito, plenty of hiking trails; you take for granted how easy it is to jump in the car and go. I’m still not a fan of the weather here though and am constantly chilly and have already been hunting for more layering jackets.
A big plus is we have SO much more space than in our NYC apartment. We’re now in a 2 bed/2 bath with an office, dining room, and large living room (vs a 1 bed/1bath there). This apartment is more my style, lots of character & charm because it’s older. I’m excited for us to feel more settled in this space and design an environment that we love. We found a great consignment shop here where we found our antique dining room table and sideboard, which we have been loving. We still have lots to find given the space is so much bigger than what our existing furniture fills, but I want to be thoughtful about items that aren’t critical to daily life to find pieces that we’ll keep for years to come.
