Back to Basics

wardrobe basics, basic investment pieces, investment style pieces

I’ve been on a closet overhaul and some pieces I’m looking to reinvest in are my basics. It’s easy to get caught up in the latest trends, but when it comes to building a wardrobe that will last, it’s important to focus on the basics. These are the pieces that will never go out of style and can be mixed and matched to create endless looks.

The way I’m approaching this is thinking about my frequently worn “go-to” wardrobe basic items. Like t-shirts and jeans. Three new pieces that I’m really enjoying that are “basic”, but versatile, are this Luna Top from Sézane, Julia Ribbed Sweater Tank from Reformation and this Leset Pointelle Short Sleeve Tee.

Both of the tank tops would be great for going under a white button down. I love the scallop detailing they each have, I think it takes what are more casual shirts and really elevates them. I also think you can pair any of these tops with a pair of jeans, heels & jewelry and be dressed up enough for a date night or girls night.

Another recent investment piece purchase are jeans by Mother, they are the “The Rambler Zip Ankle Fray”. I took a chance on these when I spotted them on Tuckernuck and liked the light coloring and frayed hem detail. A good pair of jeans is a must-have for any wardrobe. They’re comfortable, versatile, and they can be dressed up or down. Mother isn’t a brand I’ve purchased before, but I highly recommend it now. The jeans are SO soft and stretchy, probably the most comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. I can see myself wearing these a lot this Spring/Summer, when you just don’t want to be in something constricting when it’s hot outside.

Investment pieces also don’t have to break the bank, I actually purchased the Mother jeans from Poshmark, for half of the retail cost. I found a pair that had been worn once for sale, so nearly perfect condition!
