With the clock springing forward, a 72 degree-day last week, and the official switch of the season’s last Tuesday – I’ve mentally shifted into a warmer weather mindset. Unfortunately for me, living in San Francisco means the weather is just about the same year-round and I’m constantly chilly. Regardless, with the shifting of the season, it calls for different fabrics, palettes, and prints. Easter can be a good excuse to snag a new dress and start thinking about spring style, but I’m also focused on finding pieces that will work for the whole season. Here’s where my head’s at style-wise:
- Pretty Pastels: Soft pinks, blues, and those minty green shades are always a win for spring. I’m digging flowy pastel midi dresses for their easy-to-wear vibe – toss on some sneakers or simple sandals, and you’re set.
- Floral Fun: This year, don’t be afraid of bigger, bolder prints. If that feels like too much, try a floral blouse paired with jeans or a lightweight floral scarf with a simple dress.
- The Elevated Basic: White, linen, chambray – sometimes the simplest dresses create the best base for adding spring touches. Think layering a pastel cardigan over a white slip dress or accessorizing with colorful jewelry and a straw bag.
Trend Alert: Beyond the Classics
While pastels and florals are timeless, I’m also keeping an eye out for a few other fun spring trends:
- The Crochet Comeback: Yes, your grandma’s favorite craft is officially cool again. Crochet tops, cardigans, and dresses add a touch of boho charm. Just pair them with modern accessories to avoid looking too crafty.
- Sunny Yellow Accents: From buttery yellows to bright, bold shades, a pop of yellow is an instant mood booster. Think a yellow handbag, playful sandals, or a vibrant yellow sundress.
Embracing lively shades of yellow, orange, pink, and green feels perfect right now, filling me with a sense of anticipation and energy. My selection features pieces in radiant colors, from breezy dresses to eye-catching handbags, heels, jewelry, and more.
Styling for Spring in SF
Let’s be real – layering is still essential for surviving the chilly San Francisco mornings and evenings. Here’s how to make those spring trends work for our unique climate:
- The Denim Jacket: It goes over everything – pastel dresses, floral skirts, even that gingham two-piece when it’s cool. Opt for a classic wash or an oversized fit.
- Sneaker Style: White sneakers are always a good call, but don’t be afraid of color to add some personality to your outfits. I have my eye on these light blue adidas Handball Spezial Shoes.
Scarf It Up: Scarves aren’t just for winter! Lightweight silk or cotton scarves in spring patterns add a touch of elegance and can double as a wrap if the fog rolls in. To get maximum mileage and really flex your sartorial prowess, mix it up. Add one to your ponytail, weave it through plaits, tie it to your handbag or knot it around your neck. If you travel to warmer lands, it can also serve as a top ~ I love this Pucci print.
